A brace each for Harry Kane and Dele Alli saw Tottenham Hotspur cruise to a 4-0 win over Stoke City to close the gap to five points on leaders Leicester City at the Britannia Stadium last night.
Tottenham Hotspur travelled to Stoke City on Monday night knowing that three points would keep them within touching distance of the Premier League leaders following Leicester’s slip up against West Ham at the weekend drawing 2-2 in a match filled with drama.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men have renewed optimism and believe they can dramatically regain their five point margin with four games to go after another convincing display.
An early Harry Kane effort settled any Tottenham nerves within ten minutes after he eleganty curled an effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to beat Shay Given.
Tottenham then had to wait until the 67th minute before Dele Alli doubled their lead, before Harry Kane claimed his second of the match five minutes later to all but secure the three points.
Dele Alli then scored his second goal of the game late on to heap more misery on Mark Hughes’ Stoke side to send out a message to their title chasing rivals.
Meanwhile, Leicester have been rocked by the suspension of Jamie Vardy following his sending off against West Ham at the weekend. The leading goalscorer was furious with referee, Jon Moss’ decision and he faces a further one match suspension following his tirade towards the referee whilst leaving the pitch.
Vardy will be missing from Leicester’s match against Swansea with his sending off carrying an automatic one match ban. However, he looks set to be suspended for a further game which could see him miss The Foxes trip to Manchester United.
With four games to go this will be a real test of Leicester City’s character as they look to secure a fairytale Premier League triumph after starting the season as relegation favourites.
Claudio Ranieri side know that three wins from their remaining four games would seal the title which sees them lock horns with Swansea City, Manchester United and Everton, before a final day trip to reigning champions, Chelsea.
Tottenham know that victory in all of their remaining games is their only hope of a dramatic twist in the title race, hoping that Leicester drop further points.
Spurs will look to continue their recent run of form with a win against West Bromwich Albion at the weekend and with Harry Kane and Dele Alli firing on all cylinders, there is certainly hope for the North London club.
Pochettino then travels to Chelsea on 2nd May, followed by a home tie against Southampton at White Hart Lane. Spurs then finish the season with a tricky away trip to relegation-haunted Newcastle United where both team’s fate could well already be sealed before kick-off.
